Hurricane visualization, as an aid to meditation

Here's a technique some people may find helpful in learning to meditate:

If you've ever experienced a hurricane, remember the feeling of eerie calm in the eye (center) of the storm. Try to recapture that feeling.

As thoughts arise, visualize them as racing clouds, driven by hurricane winds. Within your mind, find the eye of the storm. Visualize the eye of the storm getting bigger and bigger, moving the winds and the racing clouds further and further away.

Repeat the visualization as necessary.

(This technique may be combined with other techniques, such as focussing on your breathing.)
